"Seldom Heard" Works with WoO Numbers (Kinsky/Halm catalog)

WoO 5, Violin Concerto in C, (uncompleted fragment), performed by Karl Suske, violin, and the Gewandhaus Orchester Leipzig, conducted by Heinz Bogart, on a Berlin Classics - CD, 0093092BC. Recording from 1971.

WoO 5, Violin Concerto in C, (completion by Manen), performed by Pina Carmirelli, violin, and the Heidelberger Kammerorchester, conducted by Richard Laugs on a Da Camera Magna-LP, number SM 91027. Recorded in 1973.

WoO 10, Six Minuets for Orchestra as reconstructed by Franz Beyer from the piano version of 1796. The original orchestra version is lost. Telefunken 6.41935 AW [TANZE VOL. I]

WoO 15, Six Laendler Dances for Piano. While the version for two violins and bass is well represented in the catalogue, the piano version appears to have been recorded only once, by Jeno Jando, and appears on Naxos 8.553795, Bagatelles and Dances, Volume 1. For some reason best known to him, Willy Hess did not assign a separate Hess number to the piano transcription, although he did so for all of the other sets of dances.

WoO 17 Eleven Moedlinger Dances appears on: (1) Musical Heritage Society MHS 1190 (1973), Walter Weller cond., Vienna Chamber Orchestra; (2)Telefunken 6.42133 AW w/Consortium Classicum [TANZE VOL.III].

WoO 17, Eleven Moedlinger Dances (probably spurious). Naxos 8.550433.

WoO 18, Military March in F for Wind Band ("Yorkscher March"). The CBE recording omits the trio added by Beethoven in 1822. The complete march appears on another DG recording, 439 690-2. It was also available on Telefunken (LP) SLT 43104.

WoO 18 March in F for wind band, complete with trio, appears on ARTS 47551-2, volume 2 of the Arts label's complete Beethoven music for winds.

WoO 19, Military March in F for Wind Band. The CBE recording also omits the 1822 trio from this march. The trio is included on Telefunken (LP) SLT 43104 and also on an LP by the Netherlands Wind Ensemble, Philips 6599 172.

WoO 19 March in F for wind band, complete with trio, appears on ARTS 47551-2, volume 2 of the Arts label's complete Beethoven music for winds.

WoO 27, Three Duos for Clarinet and Bassoon (doubtful). Israeli Wind Virtuosi, on Koch International Classics 3-7401-2-H1.

WoO 54, This bagatelle also appears on Meridian #CDE84145 and Epiphany Recordings #EP-1, the latter featuring Igor Kipnis on a 1793 piano.

WoO 58, Two cadenzas for Mozart's Piano Concerto KV 466, is played by Steven Beck on Beethoven: Cameos for Piano, Monument Records 03.04.01. This CD can be obtained directly from Monument Records.

WoO 59, Fuer Elise, 1822 version, is played by Steven Beck on Beethoven: Cameos for Piano, Monument Records 03.04.01. This CD can be obtained directly from Monument Records.

WoO 61, Allegretto, is played by Steven Beck on Beethoven: Cameos for Piano, Monument Records 03.04.01.

WoO 61a, Bagatelle in G minor, is played by Steven Beck on Beethoven: Cameos for Piano, Monument Records 03.04.01.

WoO 62, Piano Arrangement by Anton Diabelli of Lost String Quintet in C, is played by Steven Beck on Beethoven: Cameos for Piano, Monument Records 03.04.01. This CD can be obtained directly from Monument Records.

WoO 62, Piano version of String Quintet (also known as Hess 41). Appears on RCA 74321 61448 2, played by Olli Mustonen.

WoO 64, Six Variations on a Swiss Song in F, for Harp or Piano. While the piano version is quite commonly found on CD, the harp version appears much less frequently. Marisa Robles plays it on London 436 293-2.

WoO 107-151 are songs for solo voice and piano; in the following listed songs, the CBE does not provide recordings of the complete songs, but omits one or more verses. In these listings, the number of total verses is listed in parentheses after the title. The verse numbers which are provided therein follow each described recording.

WoO 108. An einen Saeugling (4). CBE provides vv. 1 and 2. Beethoven Complete Lieder, Cappricio 10 343/45 (Hermann Prey, Walter Olbertz), gives verses 1-4 complete.

WoO 110 Elegie auf den Tod eines Pudels (4). CBE provides vv. 1 and 4. Beethoven Lieder vol. 3, Berlin Classics BC 2084-2 provides 1-4. Peter Schreier, tenor.

WoO 116 Que le temps me dure (4, 2 versions in C and C minor). CBE provides both versions, but only verses 1 and 3. Schreier, vol. 3 sings all 4 verses, but of the C minor version only. Prey has verses 1-3 of both versions.

WoO 117 Der freie Mann (7). CBE provides vv. 1, 2 and 6. Schreier, vol. 3 gives these same verses. Prey gives vv. 1, 4 and 6.

WoO 121 Abscheidsgesang an Wiens Buerger (6). CBE has verses 1, 3 and 5. Prey gives verses 1, 2 and 6.

WoO 122 Kriegslied der Oesterreicher (4). CBE has verses 2 and 3 only. Prey has all 4 verses.

WoO 138 Der Juengling in der Fremde (6). CBE contains vv. 1 and 5 only. Prey provides verses 1, 2, 3 and 6. Beethoven Lieder vol. 1, Berlin Classics BC 2082-2, Peter Schreier, tenor, includes verses 1, 2 and 6.

WoO 142 Der Bardengeist (8). CBE gives verses 1 and 3 only. Prey gives 1, 2 and 3. Acanta (LP) 23545, Hans Hotter, baritone, gives verses 1-4.

WoO 147 Ruf vom Berge (6). CBE includes only vv. 1-3, 5 and 6. Complete vv. 1-6 on Lieder vol. 2, Berlin Classics BC 2083-2, Peter Schreier, tenor.

WoO 148 So oder so (6). CBE has vv. 1, 3 and 6, as does Schreier, Lieder vol. 3. Prey sings verses 1, 5 and 6 only.

WoO 160/1 and 160/2, Two canons in G and C. Unknown Beethoven, volume 2, Berlin Classics 009132 BC.

WoO 162, Canon Ta ta ta ta lieber Maelzel (apparently by Anton Schindler), Unknown Beethoven, volume 2, Berlin Classics 009132 BC.

WoO 200, Theme for Archduke Rudolph, is played by Steven Beck on Beethoven: Cameos for Piano, Monument Records 03.04.01. This CD can be obtained directly from Monument Records.

WoO Anh. 1, the "Jena-Symphony" An LP recording by the USSR Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Ruben Vartanyan, on Melodia 150.040 (released in 1978). Apparently it says in big letters "Beethoven" then in small letters, between brackets, "Witt"

The same recording of the Jena-Symphony, WoO Anh.1, was released once more, on Melodia 270.002 -- oddly enough, the orchestra is now called the "Moscow Radio Large Symphony Orchestra" the conductor, however, retained his name: Ruben Vartanyan. Playing time: 26 minutes.

WoO Anh. 13; this Funeral March was composed by Johann Heinrich Walch. An arrangement of it for windband by a certain Hartmann was released on CD, EMI CZS 5.68696-2, played by the Central Band of the RAF, conducted by Wing Cdr R.E.C. Davies. The recording dates from 1971. The CD (ADD) is part of a set of two CDs, entitled "The official British Legion Classical Album. Favourite British classics and Military themes Celebrating 50 years of peace in Europe" and was released in 1995.
