Detailed Information
Fragment in C, Biamonti 666 (1816)

This comic little fragment of three notes is found in a letter from Beethoven to publisher Sigmund Anton Steiner. Although undated, it is believed to be from 1816, while Beethoven was in Vienna. In the letter (Nr. 706 in Anderson's catalog), Beethoven hints that he is waiting for money and also includes a scolding for Tobias Haslinger, "the Adjutant," who apparently was talking too much about Beethoven's plans. Beethoven suggesting that he be incarcerated at once and be tried for great crimes against the state. Beethoven signs as The Generalissimo, as was his humorous habit in dealing with Steiner and Haslinger.
