Cue in E major (for String Quartet?), Biamonti 281Download the midi fileHaving trouble downloading? Try these helpful hintsPiece Overview Detailed Information This short draft, like Biamonti 274, appears to be for string quartet. Dr. Arnold Schmitz theorized that it also might be the beginning of an Andante, but it seems to us that this fragment is more likely meant to be a transitional figure, as it slides the theme from the key of E into E-flat. After the fragment, Beethoven writes "u.s.w." (et cetera), so we have given both the original sketch and also a version which includes a repitition of the fragment in the new key of E-flat, which in turn descends to D major. This cue is on the same grouping of sketch leaves as Hess 60 and 61 and Biamonti 268-284, in the Beethovenhaus in Bonn.
