Detailed Information Fragments in E-flat and B-flat major, Biamonti 244 (1800)
These two fragments are written in two staves as if in a piano score, but the note stems are pointing in such a way as to suggest that they represent different parts in a reduced orchestral score. Exceedingly difficult to read, they do represent some interesting motifs, and probably were intended for a movement in the ballet The Creatures of Prometheus, op. 43. The first is a playful theme that varies the rhythms of its principal figure in slightly unexpected ways from measure to measure, while the second, somewhat longer fragment of 18 bars, is quite a dramatic transitional sequence, winding up on a massive seventh that alas never resolves.
The sketches are found at page 151 of the Landsberg 7 sketchbook of 1800, on staves 1-6.These fragments are presented in MIDI form as both piano and a conjectural orchestral assignment, and an mp3 of this orchestral version. The latter utilizes samples from Garritan Personal Orchestra.
