The Unheard Beethoven

At long last, we're back with new updates and still more Unheard Beethoven, totalling nearly half an hour of Beethoven's music available nowhere else, and virtually all of which are world premieres. Much of this update is devoted to the materials found in the Landsberg 7 sketchbook of 1800, comprised of unused sketches and drafts for The Creatures of Prometheus op. 43, piano sonata op. 26 and violin sonata op. 24, among other compositions. While many of these are brief, they offer intriguing glimpses into Beethoven's creative process as striking and notable ideas are placed on the page and then unceremoniously rejected.

Among the most intriguing pieces premiered in this update are the long-awaited Unfinished Concertante of 1802 (Gardi 3), presented in several different versions, a complete and marvelous fugue for string quartet never before published or performed (Hess 243 nr. 6), some compelling and extensive fragments of a fugue in D minor (Biamonti 250), and several new minuets (Biamonti 258 and Gardi 19), as well as the rejected first version of the op. 18 nr. 4 string quartet slow movement.
